BOARD GAMES
Games of all kinds were present in my family home, as well as in my grandparents’ and friends’ houses. I grew up in the countryside, where the hills and the little forests around our home were just as much a playground as the computers that had not long been personalised and made affordable. A child of the late 80s, my first years were filled with the usual titles you might expect, plus a few more, as well as a grounding in Go (Baduk, Weiqi) by my dad, Scrabble by my Mum’s parents, and Mahjong by my Dad’s parents. Throw in a lot of early computer games, some schooling and extra curricular activities, and you’ve got a very playful youth.
I am lucky to have experienced such an upbringing, and am very grateful for all of the opportunities it provided. My love of games is deep and pervades everything, and it is my belief that play is the natural state of us all. Curiosity, the drive to understand, the testing and trialling of theories, are all ultimately play. I feel fortunate indeed that I have been able to play for so much of my life, and to have been able to support myself from doing so.
In October 2022, after many years of designing board games of my own as a hobby, I decided to take the plunge and see if I could bring my ideas to people beyond friends and family. I created Cosy Cub Games as the means to publish my ideas, and ran my first crowdfunding campaign in May 2024, which was a great success and has led to the publication of my first game “TENBY”. I can’t wait to see what play I can help to facilitate in the coming years, and hope to be able to explore many ideas that might in some small way help to connect people to the world around us.
